Good, local food + Car Show = fun for everyone

This week’s Downtown Eagle market has got something for everyone: fresh produce, flowers, bread, artsy stuff, and the car show. How can you go wrong with chrome, big block engines and a juicy peach?

The Downtown Eagle Market will host the car show in the park, producers will be on the side street next to Subway.
Canyon Orchards will be at the far north end of the street next to Powers Bread. Be sure to get some of Ira Power’s Cinnamon Swirl bread to couple with fresh Peaches for your Sunday morning french toast. Highly recommended by my 1 1/2 year old Sydney.
Market Hours: 8:30 am to 1:00 pm

New this week: Alberta peaches, we’ll also have Early Hales. My friend Kristy will be working the market with me so be sure to ask her about her "Peach Blush Jam" recipe.
New this week: Barlett pears

Also at market:
Corn – Bodacious variety.  I’ll be freezing my own corn on Sunday (around 10 dozen!). If you want more than two dozen for your own freezer, please drop me a note by Thursday afternoon.
Tomatoes
Watermelon, cantaloupe, canary melons
Plums
Apples – Macintosh and Galas
Zucchini and Cucumbers

Drop me a note if you’d like a full box of fruit. I’d like to include your request in my quantities for the week. I’ll be at the orchard early Friday morning, so please let me know by Thursday end of day. Note: A full box of peaches is $25. If you’re canning, a box yields about 8 quart jars of peaches.

Recipe suggestion:
Pealed and sliced cucumbers
Chopped tomatoes
Drizzle of rice wine vinegar
Crumbled feta cheese
Salt and Pepper
Toss and refrigerate for about two hours
Eat to your hearts content knowing that it’s good for you.

Thanks for eating local.
